The Gift of Being Well-Hung
For my Mom's birthday, long with a 99.4% humility-free 2-ft square picture of Myself Rampant and multiple plugs for my Mom's 6-ft long silver humming monstrosity, I was asked to replace a door in what *used* to be my bedroom. Behind the "Dreams" poster were two large holes, much too big to repair, and she had purchased a new door with a pre-drilled handle-hole. I'd never hung a door before, but, about three hours later, I had cut the mortises for all the hinges, re-built the frame on one side, hung the new door, re-installed the handle, and adjusted everything back to flush, using only my leatherman, a hammer, a drill, and a few cheap chisels. All it needs is a new coat of paint, which was planned from the beginning. I'm very happy with my increased handiness.

Getting better at things like this just requires practice. It's kind of like car maintenance. First you're clueless, then you change a tire, then you change your oil. Next thing you know, you're pulling the engine out of a Metro to do a repair you're just going to have to repeat in a few months.
It's amazing.
