Misery Thursday: Puppy torture noises now funny.

Although it's still very painful to hear my new puppy cry and howl when he isn't constantly the center of attention, it's gotten to a point where it's starting to seem funny. I've actually pulled out my SM-58 microphone and my mixing board to record some of the choicer whining. I understand that being taken away from your family is a very traumatic experience, but it isn't being ass-raped by Mike Tyson. Some of the histrionics are so ridiculous you can't do anything but laugh, especially when you're five feet away and can see the total absence of blow torches, thumb screws, or large, superhuman heavyweight champions of the world.

The puppy went to fire practice at Cafe Mundi tonight and was ecstatically the center of attention of at least twenty different people throughout the night. He was also on a leash for the first time, and he did very well. It's still very hard to tell if he's peeing when I take him out for short walks, but it was also *very* cold for such a short-haired dog. He spent most of his evening inside people's coats and shirts, with only his little head sticking out.

There were several excellent name suggestions that I will at to the contest list.

We have practice every Tuesday from dark to 11-12 PM at the Enchanted Forest (Oltorf and Lamar, I could pick you up) and once a month at Cafe Mundi. I and a bunch of other people would be happy to help you learn.

Augh. I dunno about letting multiple people watching me f*ck up and hit myself in the head. Still. A little bit of fear/potential embarrassment is probably good for the soul and ego.

If all you're doing is learning to spin poi, and you're not actually on fire, the only people really focusing on you would be the teacher and one or two other people. It's really very low-key and friendly. The firedancers are my main peer group. The professionals don't often come out to practice anymore, except the guys from San Antonio.

Besides, I'm a semi-professional and I still hit myself in the face one a regular basis, often when I'm using fire. :)
