Livejournaling with PalmOS

I just got a Palm Centro, but I haven't found a good way to get fully integrated LJ usage from it:

1) All the clients I've found are post-only. They don't allow you to read other people's posts.

2) The built-in web browser, Blazer, doesn't seem to work with LJ at all. When I try to go to any specific post, it tries to save it as a text file instead of displaying it on the screen.

3) When I try to respond to posts from within Yahoo web mail (accessed through the included Mail client) it doesn't work because some of the keys used for typing (spacebar, backspace, and the 'm' key, for example) are mapped to other e-mail tasks, making it impossible to actually write in the text you want to reply with.

Since it's fairly obvious that the only reason the Centro was developed was for everyone to hear more about my exciting life on the couch with my dogs, this is all pretty surprising.

Anyone else found a better way to to LJ from their Palm or mobile device?

Actually, LJ started magically working on Blazer just after I posted this. I have no idea what changed.

Will definitely look into Opera Mini. Thanks for the tip. Good to have multiple browsers just in case.

So much for Opera mini...

As of January 12, 2008, Palm no longer has rights to distribute the IBM WebSphere Micro Environment Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to our customers. JVM allows users to install and run Java applications and games on Palm OSĀ® devices.

#2, I don't get. I check LJ from Blazer regularly. I post to LJ from Blazer on my Centro. Don't know what's up with yours...

It magically changed at some point shortly after I posted this.

Looks like you got it fixed. One tip: I like sending photos to Flickr from the email program, then going to m.flickr.com, finding the picture, and blogging it to LJ from the mobile interface.

I've not seen any clients... to do a good one, you'd need to render HTML, and since that requires Blazer (or the HTML library on recent Treo/Centro devices), no one's really done anything.

I will note that the new Facebook client app is very slick. I'd never used FB before, but I got an account to try it out, and I like it.

Ben! It's great to hear from you. Thanks for the info. Do you still work for Palm?

Now that I have the Centro, I'm considering getting back into Palm development. I haven't looked at the tools environment around that for years.

Yep, still at Palm. Working on secret projects. Moving to New York City at the end of the summer. :)

Yes, that was me... didn't realize I was logged out of LJ.

Wow. That's quite an upgrade from North Austin. :)

I've got the picture onto m.flickr. I've figured out how to get the page address, but not the url of the jpg itself. Is there a way?

Nope, not with Blazer. I thought there was a way to use the "Blog This" feature from the mobile version, but I just checked, and it's only on the desktop.

although, if you hold your pen or finger down on a JPEG, you can save it to the SD card/internal memory where you can then use it as a phone background.

There a new mobile blogging/picture upload tool called CellSpin with a Palm OS client out today. It's at http://www.cellspin.net/ and it supports for Flickr and LiveJournal. Haven't tried it out much yet.
