Thanks for your concern, everybody. The roads were much better with the grease washed off, and at least half dry, for the trip home.

Further scootage will have to await dryer skies.

I gave up my pride and tossed my bike into a co-worker's truck last night. One mile out from the building, the storm broke and we got RAIN. No hail, but heavy rain.

Did not cycle in today because it was so cloudy, so dreary, and because my bike seat is going to be soaked for a day or two longer.

I hadn't encountered this level of not-safe before, but most people who do two-wheeled commuting have probably seen it. I have no idea how the bicycle compares to the scooter beyond two wheels. One problem with the scooter is that it's *heavy*. It weighs almost twice as much as me, so when you're on a slick spot, sometimes tipping it is the *only* method for stopping before you hit something. The friction of my leather jacket is far more effective than the brakes.

Besides simply not riding it in this kind of weather, I'm also going to see if I can find better tires with more traction, and maybe a riding jacket I can wear comfortably in the summer. I routinely run around then in just a t-shirt, and I'd be in the hospital right now if that's what I'd been wearing.
