Today I finally finished the week-long ordeal of repairing my 1999 Honda CR-V to get it ready for sale. It's generally in very good condition, so I'm polishing all the rough edges so I can get top dollar for it. The biggest task was replacing all four struts, which I had never done before. Thousands of brutal, greasy ratchet turns later, and I'm finished. I had to install the equivalent of six shocks rather than four, because I had to re-do two of them almost completely due to various first-timer errors. It now rides like it was brand new, however, so the effort was well worth it. The previous Pronounced Bouncing Wobble it was doing was definitely a sale preventer.

The other issue I was trying to solve was the downstream oxygen sensor saying that the catalytic converter wasn't working. I replaced the sensor today and reset the computer, hoping to God that it was the sensor that was broken and not the catalytic converter itself. Previously the Check Engine light would come on after around 45 miles, and the round trip to [livejournal.com profile] dirtwitch's place was over 70, and it *didn't* *come* *on*.

That, at least, I'm ecstatic about.

The thing I'm less happy about is dropping off the Loki Dog at [livejournal.com profile] dirtwitch's house for a weekend visit. It was a much shorter visit later in the day, and everyone but Loki was tired and cranky, but this should tell us whether on not Loki will really fit in in his new home.

One of the many things I'm doing to prepare to travel more is adopting out my precious puppies. I took Loki over to [livejournal.com profile] dirtwitch's house in Elgin yesterday to see if he would help bring their heavily abused (not by them) rescue dog Willow out of her shell. Everyone got along famously, and evidently Willow was more sociable and playful than she had ever been before. I was treated to an excellent chicken dinner, and got to see [livejournal.com profile] dirtwitch's Permaculture setup on her 18 acres out in Elgin. Next we will try an overnight visit, and if that goes well, a trial adoption for a few weeks. As much as I hate to give up my dogs, I really feel good about how things are going so far, and I know Loki will have a great time with his new family.

Inspired by virgogrrl77, I decided it was high time to get a baby sling for my Italian Greyhound Loki. I daresay I have found one that could even be described as "masculine." Not a single colorful giraffe in evidence!

I don't really have "drinking buddies" per-se, but if I did, I'm sure they'd be very supportive.

It's time to go a sports bar. Too bad I didn't own this yesterday. We could have watched Slash rise up out of the stage *together*.

While my Mom is physically doing well after the surgery, she's really worried about how things are going to go once I'm gone. She's very overweight and has trouble walking when her feet *haven't* just had surgery, and now she isn't allowed to put any weight on her left foot for six weeks. We've made a lot of progress in setting up the house for her to be able to get around with a wheelchair, and she's been through this entire same process once before, but I can't blame her for being worried. She does have several good friends and neighbors nearby to help her, and I've also decided I'm going to skip out on the last day of PBF to come up and visit her on Mother's Day, but deliberate or not, she's laying a *huge* guilt trip on me. She's the kind of person who deliberately talks clearly and loudly on the phone to the person at the other end within my hearing so put social pressure on me, orders me around rather than making requests (most of the time, she is improving) and passive-aggressively gets angry at me when I don't do things I wasn't able to read from her mind.

Tonight I pulled out my performance setup and plugged it into the home theater system. I wanted to see and hear it big and live as it will be on stage, and also start working bugs out of the system. Although I've ordered a Rocktron MIDI Mate pedalboard, it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm still using my keyboard for triggering.

The dogs were *very* confused.

For reasons that are still unclear, my Italian Greyhound, Loki, is seen as more of a individual, and is therefore referred to almost exclusively by name or pet name, whereas Louie, my Puggle, is treated more like the official local representative of the lugubrious Puggle Race. He is much more often referenced as "The Puggle," "My Puggle", "The Puggle-mutt", and only occasionally by his actual name.

Speculations on the reason for this would be welcome.

My puppy should be coming home tomorrow with a cybernetic implant holding his bones together. The surgery today went very well, and odds for full recovery are high. On the downside, Loki's going to have live almost entirely in his crate for the next 6-8 weeks, which can't be good for anyone involved.

Poor puppy!

I took my adorable little Italian Greyhound Loki in tonight to have his testicles cut off tomorrow morning. Right now he's probably huddled in a little frightened ball in an anonymous pen on top of my sweatshirt, certain only that things aren't normal. Little does he know. I feel very guilty. All the reasons this is probably a good choice don't change that. I wouldn't like it if a Republican decided that non-Republicans would be happier if they couldn't reproduce and cut *my* balls off. I'm reminded of a line from one of Elizabeth Marshall Thomas's books on dogs where she observes that dogs are basically our slaves. On some levels our relationship with them is very symbiotic, but that doesn't make it less true.

I've been considering a similar treatment for myself recently, but at least I have a choice, and would get to keep my testosterone.

I take some small comfort in the fact that I live in the country that invented Neuticles.

Finally got my Burn on this past weekend at Rec Plant after having missed Flipside this year. It was great to re-connect with the land and the community, and the weather was mostly-perfect after some initial Friday-night rain. I took some pictures, but haven't downloaded them yet.

After contributing a part to the Bug and Dog Thievery Funds, I finally got to eat my very first-even home-garden tomato! It was juicy and delicious, and should be followed by at least another 15 or so ripening on the vine.

I managed to solve a last-minute pet sitting emergency, and will now be able to attend Poly Big Fun 99.9% Loki-free!

Hopefully I will come back enlightened and just as pregnant as I am now. :)
