You might already know this one, but watch for bad MSG-type additives in dog products, too. Before and around the time one of our dogs died years ago, we found out a lot about most of the dog foods out there having horrible things in them, about what small levels of MSG can do to small dogs over time, and also, weird as this sounds, that grape stalks have something in them that hurts dogs, too. (That last one... I have no idea. I'm not sure I can find a source that will back that up. But I thought, better to say than not to say...)
It's hard for me to write this comment because my mother has all the research back in Ohio, and I was so upset the whole time that I didn't digest much more of it than "!!!!!!!!!!!" -- so I'm not saying it in a very intelligent or evidence-related way. But I still want to figure out a way to SAY it in case it is helpful to somebody.
