The show was good, and I'm glad I went, but I don't really feel like I was rocked to the core or anything. One general problem with seeing G/I music in concert is that it's really better in the hands of a skilled DJ than it is live. This has been true for Thrill Kill Cult, Apoptigma Berserk and the other bands at Trance Communion, and now for Sisters of Mercy. They put on a good show, Andrew Eldrich had a very well-developed stage presense with lots of body language, and they came back for three (obviously planned) encores despite a very tepid response after the end of the main show. Another problem is that I'm only really familiar with their really famous stuff, none of which is recent, so most of the concert I had no idea what the bald man hopping around on stage was trying to communicate to me. I certainly couldn't understand the words. On stuff like Dominion Mother Russia and (poor band members!) Temple of Love, I was singing along with the rest of them. I was also frustrated by my inability to really dance, though I was doing what I could in the space allowed.
I enjoyed it and it was worth $30 to do once, but I'll skip next time they're in town.
