I was given this frightening, unsubtle reminder today that the Table Saw is basically a steel lightsaber...

Of course, lightsabers automatically cauterize the wound, which would have been handy, since I was kind of busy when this happened and didn't really have time to mop up blood. A lightsaber would also, however, have probably caught the wood on fire.

One can't have everything.

At least I still have a thumb.

This nick is a very, very cheap reminder of how dangerous power tools can be, as well as an opportunity to christen the new entryway transition to Flagship Suburbia with my own blood.

Forgive me if my thumb is slightly less busy in the near future.

In other news, minus a few mis-stained trim panels that had to be re-done, the floor is finished! I'll post more pictures as soon as we've cleaned up the mess. It's officially the hugest home improvement project we've ever undertaken, and it's fantastic that it's finally over. I was previously unaware that it was possible to finish projects, and this option opens entirely new vistas of doneness for me.

I *also* completed the new chicken nesting box today, just in time for the girls to come home and take a look at it in place of the old one. I made it so it will mount on the outside of the coop near the entrance. I used a pair of hinges and a handle from an old cabinet, and the rest of the parts were recycled as well. I haven't yet cut the hole to mount it to the outside of the coop yet, but that's ok, because you're supposed to leave it on the floor for a few days so they get used to it first. The pet carrier I was using previously was directly in the exit path, which sometimes lead to a hen becoming a squawking doormat when she had the poor timing to get her egg on during our waddlingly bouncy daily exodus. Having it *close* to the entrance, but not *in* the entrance, will be a huge improvement.
