Re-creating the Sun -- a Fun Weekend Project

My single biggest Person Problem is my inability to consciously exercise control over when I sleep. I routinely stay up very late, often sleep 12-14 hours a day, and then complain that I don't have enough time to do anything. The latest in my long series of attempts to get myself more connected with the sun cycle is this:

This used to be my 300 watt floor lamp. Using a Rube Goldberg menagerie of various components, I was able to put it fully under automatic computer control to try to simulate the sun cycle.

Bouncing off the ceiling right *next* to my bed wasn't good enough, so I took the fucker apart, and hung it directly over my head pointing down. Actually, I *didn't* do that first. First I strapped the whole fucker, weighty base and all, to my bed with zip ties, but that was both ridiculous and unsafe. This was an improvement (I got up before 1 PM today!), but still has the quality of sleeping through the moment when the Death Star is just charging up to fire. Also, the light is too orange-y to properly simulate dawn, which has a lot more blue in the spectrum. So, I got some blue glass beads, and found a way to artfully strap them to the bottom. The result is more attractive, more diffuse, and, most importantly, more *blue.*

Unfortunately it's being held in place only by a screw eye into drywall, and it's pretty heavy now, so I'm not sure I'm willing to sleep with it in it's current location until I put in a better attachment. I think I might just hang it from the metal bedframe tonight.
