Free Money!

I was chasing down an old insurance check when I discovered the Texas Unclaimed Property Website. If you never cash a check, etc., this is where the funds go, and you can reclaim them! I have no idea how difficult the whole process is, but I'm getting a couple hundred from it. One of my friends may get a few thousand! I printed out the paperwork, but haven't looked over the details yet.

Erinlefey posted while I was writing my long discourse, I'm glad to know it was easy to get your money! I've only dealt with people who've run into trouble trying to get their money, but I haven't had that happen all that often. It's a lot harder for a business to claim their funds, I've discovered.

The main thing I need is proof I lived at a few old places. One was an apartment, the other my Mom's house. What would be acceptable proof? They're not very specific on the form.

Any official mail you received at those addresses, such as a utility bill or a bank statement is ideal. Basically, anything that shows your name at that address should work. But I've never actually gone through the claim process, so I'm not entirely sure.

Excellent! I found several old collection agency letters and some old loan payoff letters. I sent two pieces of proof for each address, just to be sure. Thanks for the help!
