Mixed Blessings...
Aug. 16th, 2006 03:21 amSo last we left my precious Fujitsu P2040 laptop, I had dropped it directly on the the network card, which then stopped working. And it wasn't just the card that stopped working. It was the port. The only port. The only way I could get online.
The only thing, in short, separating it from a portable DVD player.
So now, while evaluating the possibility of using it as part of my Foot's Eye View of Burning Man project, things have changed.
When booting the system, I was very excited to see the card come alive! Blinkies! I'm online!
That was before I noticed the screen wasn't coming on.
Assuming it was the external graphics settings, I hooked it up to another monitor. The good news is that the system works and I'm typing this to you on it's tiny keyboard now. The bad news is that its built-in screen, which was the main attraction as a foot photography booth kiosk component, appears to have a defective backlight, meaning the screen is basically blank.
On the other hand, the camera I'm using for this project this year can't take pictures while hooked up to the computer, anyway, so it's a waste of time unless I decide to use the Nikon instead, which allows full computer control. Without the screen, its not worth it. I might be able to fix it if something was merely knocked loose, but that sounds like a post Burning Man project less than two weeks until I leave.
