I just got back from the D/FW area where I spent a week helping my Mom recover from foot surgery. She can't put any of her considerable weight on that foot for another three weeks, and she's not that steady on her feet to begin with, so quite a bit of work when into converting the house to make it easier to move around. She was in pretty good shape when I left, and I'll be calling her on a regular basis for the next few weeks to see how she's doing.

In other news, the two main players in the Great Girlfriend Debacle of my college years are soon moving to Austin. My very first ever girlfriend (at the time) of 4 years hooked up with my high-school friend of 7 years, ending our romantic involvement and splitting our very small, tightly knit group of mutual friends asunder. At the time it totally destroyed my life. It's been 9 years since, so it's old news, but there's no doubt I've still got issues about it. To make matter worse, the boyfriend is moving into one of my best friends houses that I visit regularly for a few months while he's looking for housing. I just started tentative communication recently with my ex, who hasn't mentioned any of the moving plans herself at all. I'm thinking the best course of action is for all of us to get together at some point shortly after they move down here just to clear the air as much as possible. Otherwise we'll all be paranoid about running into each other, which, in Austin, is completely inevitable. Better to get it over with sooner rather than later.

How bad could it really be? Certainly not as bad as my nerves are telling me.

Guess now would probably be a good time to dig through that box of relationship momentos I've been dragging around since 1998. Might be time to find a wood chipper or something.
