I'd gotten about 2/3rds done with this:



...when I got stuck driving in a screw. Now, I was using a 7.2 volt (very weak) battery-powered drill to drive a 2" long woodscrew into Ipe, which is a bit like trying to nail a six inch spike through a board with your penis. Ipe's density can't be any less than 1/3 that of solid steel, and while drilling the screw holes with a fucking masonry bit the wood actually caught fire. Not sawdust. *Black* *smoke*. Anyway, I realized that at 11:23 PM, there was only *one* place I was going to find the drill I needed to finish the project.

Wal-Mart.

Fuck.

After bending over and taking it from America's World Domination Solution, I was able to finish the project in short order.

Go Wal-Mart.

Anyway, this is my very first Square Foot Gardener planter. This gardening technique allows one to grow enough food for one salad for one adult per day in only 16 square feet of growing space. Double that and you also get vegetables for dinner. It's evidently the most popular gardening method of all time, and after reading The All New Square Foot Gardener, I'm anxious to try it out. I'm now in possession of everything I need except the seeds. Tomorrow I'll build my second 2'x 4' bed for my starter 16 sq. ft., and will then proceed back to home improvement store to get the steel conduit and garden netting necessary for tomatoes, grapes, and other vines.

Later I will post pictures of the seedlings. And then the mature vegetables. And then the meal I make from the vegetables.

Hopefully I'll stop there...

I just have a friend who moved back from there to Austin. Yay!

Maybe. Kit hasn't answered my last few attempts at e-mail or LJ contact, which is strange. I'm not motivated to go to CS very often, but I *did* go to school there, and it's been years since I've been back on my own for some unnecessary trips down memory lane.

I've been bad about email for the last few months and I just keep forgetting to reply to you. It's a lame excuse but I hope you don't take it personally.

I try not to take anything personally. When you lived in Austin I at least ran into you every few weeks, so I felt more in touch. I've been through non-communicative periods, too.

Besides, you've been *writing*!

Yeah the writing has definitely contributed. I have been putting a lot less effort into LJ and a lot more into thinking about my prose. But, OTOH, I like to stay connected to friends too and I haven't been doing the best job of it, esp. as far as my Austin peeps are concerned.

It would be cool if you did decide to come visit us sometime, even for an evening. We love houseguests.

...and the fact that you might be excited to see me is, in itself, exciting.
This whole discussion does beg the question, especially since my last conversation with Kit led me to believe that you had severed your association with a certain pizzoid establishment, why are you still living in College Station?

And cheap rent is *not* a good enough answer!
