*Actually* I suspect the water from the city might be part of the problem. The average PH of the water in the Austin system is almost 10! I can't imagine that drinking something so alkaline all the time could *not* have an effect on the body. I just bought a PH test kit (unfortunately only does the range between 6.4 and 8.2) to see if the Brita filter I have does anything to the PH. Eventually I'll be drinking filtered rainwater, which should be much closer to neutral, but if I can't find another way to get less alkaline water, I may step up the effort.
