Tonight I attended both Eastern Bloc party at the Rhizome Collective and my standard Saturday haunt of Industrial night at Elysium. My visit to the Rhizome collective was ironic, since I've been heavily into permaculture for several years, but had never actually *been* to the Rhizome since. Upon arriving, I realized I had been there once before, a *long* time ago, possibly before it was known by that name. Also for a party, not permaculture. :)

The Eastern Bloc party was both well attended and well musified.

I got there in time to hear the end of Winovino's set, which was fabulous, and the beginning of the DJ sets, which were funky and inventive. There were only a few people I knew there, which was mildly surprising, especially since the party itself felt very much like a small burn. I stayed for about 90 minutes, then inexplicably moved on to Elysium in my gypsy outfit. I had a few minor issues dancing in my sandals, which are much grippier than the combat boots I usually wear, but generally had a blast at both places. I also had a great time wandering around 6th street around 2 AM among all the bikers wearing my gypsy outfit while eating an enormous polish sausage. I got lots of looks and comments from various drunk people. I'm very grateful I can get away with that kind of thing in this incarnation.

The ride home was interesting, as the power indicator on the scooter (Rupert) was already into the yellow before I'd even crossed the river. By the time I pulled into my driveway, I had just switched to blinking red, which means you've only got a few miles left. The scooter also slows down to prevent optimism. I checked the route in Mapquest, and it looks like it was roughly 20 miles round trip, including a few miles of noodling. This is a little disappointing, since it's advertised as doing 30-45 miles in one trip. Naturally things like terrain and stoplights make a big difference. It looks, though, like 20 miles is about the longest range I can expect on a single charge when the weather is warm.
