This fucking *rules*.

The basic idea is that a centralized group of farmers installs and maintains an organic garden in *your* back yard, with you paying some up-front costs and getting a share of the produce.

Not only does this rule from a general CSA perspective, but think about how fast they will get better at adapting growing techniques to different sites! Killer.

I would recommend Gaia's Garden by Toby Hemenway. I took a 10-week course to get certified as a Permaculture designer, and this book is the closest thing I've seen to the complete course in one place.

Also, as [livejournal.com profile] goudanandamentioned below, the Rhizome Collective here in Austin has some great stuff. They just came out with a permaculture guide that I got in the mail a few days ago, and I'm anticipating it will be really fabulous. I'll let you know once I'm done reading it.

For vegetables, I really like Gardening When it Counts, though to be honest I haven't used much of the advise in there so far.
