Commitment One Accomplished!
Jan. 18th, 2011 12:52 amSo, in solidarity with
spottedvasa, who is doing a month-long retreat at the Great Vow Zen Monestary, I decided to make some commitments of my own.
My first was to get up every day the first week no later than 10 AM. And, for the first time in recent memory when I didn't have a specific commitment like a job or school to motivate me, I did it! This is major progress for me, as I've consistently overslept in the past, wasting huge amounts of my life.
Last night I decided I would sleep in today, as I do get some benefits from sleeping really late occasionally, such as lucid dreaming and dream recollection.
Originally my plan was to only do each commitment for a week, but I'm going to continue this one until the retreat is over.
This week my new commitment is to do breathing exercises in the morning after I get up, mediation at least once during the day, and yoga before I go to bed every night. This will also be a continuing commitment that will last until the end of the retreat. My record for yoga has actually been quite good recently, more than 50%, so that part should be a bit easier than the others.
