I've been beating my head against the wall trying to install Drupal on the RadioMac for several weeks. I have a bunch of projects on hold right now because I can't get it working, including my official professional site, which I really need up to I can make business cards, etc. I finally gave up doing it fully manually and switched back to MAMP, which pre-installs compatible and tested versions of Apache, PHP, and MySQL. I *finally* got both Drupal 5.15 and 6.9 working on my system! No error messages, no missing GD, no whining about cron running. Both versions are functioning 100% error free.

Tomorrow I will actually add *content!*

I'm also shopping for hosting services. I've had at least one vote for Dreamhost, though I have some concerns about the speed of SQL queries on them using Drupal. For now my websites will probably be pretty low traffic, but I can reasonably assume I will eventually have some social network stuff with 100+ users on it. Any other recommendations?

After several days of tweakage, I've finally managed to get Drupal 6 installed on the RadioMac. What is Drupal, you ask? It's a very powerful website system, and my ticket to renewed relevance on the Web. I was actually a webmaster for my department back when I co-oped in college, but "web high tech" in those days consisted of hand-edited static HTML and CGI scripts for live content.

It would seem, in the past ten years, that things have *changed*.

I'm operating on very incomplete information, but Drupal seems to have the best balance of "I want to have websites done tomorrow" and "I want to do anything with my website without having to learn PHP" and *even* "I want to customize with PHP manually" that I've seen. It's also open-source, well supported, and come pre-installed on many hosting services.
